Vendors at the Victor Hugo Market in Toulouse open and selling during COVID-19

Our favorite Toulouse food shops open and delivering during COVID-19

We are all stuck at home these days, and while we are allowed to go grocery shopping, it doesn’t mean the big grocery chain is our only option! You can still eat delicious food and support the local economy here in Toulouse and the surrounding region. Talk about a win-win! To help you out, we’ve got a round-up of our favorite local Toulouse food shops that are open and offering delivery during the COVID-19 lockdown. They’re staying on the job so that we can #restonscheznous (#stayathome).

Keep in mind, that payment and delivery options vary from vendor to vendor. As always, minimizing contact is the goal here, so some places may just deliver to your doorstep. Ordering online or ahead of time also lets you spend less time in the shops, which means less chance of contamination for you and for store workers. Check with your vendor to see how best to pay and receive your items. And remember, we’re living in ever-changing times, so keep checking back here to see updates on what is open! If there’s a business you love that is open and/or offering delivery, send me a note and I’ll look into it, then add it to the list.

The region of Occitanie has launched a site to match people with local producers near them who will deliver. Type in your address and you’ll get a map so you can see who delivers around you. However, contact with each producer is not done through the site, so the mode of communication varies by producer, and often there is a lack of detail regarding delivery radius, product availability, etc. It’s a great effort and a good start (and will probably receive updates as this situation drags on), but you may find your mileage varies in terms of useability.

Fraichy – A new online platform for delivery by bike from local Toulouse businesses just launched in Toulouse in March (what timing!), after getting their start in Montpellier. They’ve got several really great butchers, a very high-quality bakery, fresh fruit and veggies, and more. The épicerie Le Potiron d’Or was highly recommended by a friend who orders from them, and I can personally recommend pretty much all of the other businesses currently listed (Fromagerie Emilie, le Cochon Regaleur, Boulangerie Les Frères Chapelier, Boucherie Marty, Boucherie Desroches Frères, and Poissonnerie Bellocq, to name a few). I haven’t personally used this service yet, but it comes recommended!

Toulouse Markets open during COVID-19

The Marché Victor Hugo is still open for business at the usual hours, and vendors are all working to be compliant with the government health rules and regulations. Many merchants are also offering delivery services from Tuesday to Sunday for Toulouse (€8 delivery fee) and the surrounding metropolitan area (€16 delivery fee). You can contact the individual vendor – or go to their website if they have one – and place your order; they will centralize all of the orders and you’ll receive your delivery the next day. Coming soon, the marché will be offering an app to make ordering and delivery even easier.

IF you do need to go to the market in person, PLEASE try to go during the week, as they have noticed a large discrepancy in the amount of people who come during the week and on the weekends. If you can go at a time when it is less busy, it’s safer for everyone!

Need to speak to someone in English? Here are some vendors who can help:
