The Best Places to Stay in Toulouse
No matter where you choose to stay in Toulouse – whether it’s a hotel, hostel, or self-catered hotel-apartment – you will be right in the thick of the action! The recently appointed third-largest city in France is bustling with life: packed restaurants and bistros, bar patrons spilling out onto terraces, cute independent stores to browse, heaving food markets to explore, and we can assure you that you will find activity close to your doorstep in any neighborhood!
Toulouse’s city center is compact and easy to get around, either by foot or by public transport, and yet there are a number of different neighborhoods all with distinctive atmospheres, even though they are all a stone’s throw apart. Depending on your needs and vacation agenda, there are different hotels, hostels, and self-catered accommodation to suit everyone.
Our round-up of the best places to stay in Toulouse is as eclectic as Toulouse itself – hotels ranging from sumptuous to modern, minimalist to boutique – yet all provide that idyllic quiet spot to rest, put your feet up, and relax after a day of exploring.
This shortlist of places to stay has been narrowed down meticulously, and all include excellent customer service with staff speaking multiple languages (including English), free Wi-Fi, disabled access, 24-hour reception, family-friendly facilities, and great locations with easy public transport links. We have divided them into four categories, so you can easily focus on your needs alone.
The Best Boutique Hotels in Toulouse
What sets boutique hotels apart from other hotels is their unique style, a sense of intimacy, and personalized service. Boutique hotels typically include additional special facilities.
Maison Soclo
A favorite amongst the Taste of Toulouse team is the city-based sanctuary that is Soclo. Secreted away in the central university district right by the Garonne river, an unassuming 18th-century townhouse is revealed to be a charming 4-star boutique hotel. Famous for its daily brunch – which we have already praised to the nines – Soclo is an oasis with a tranquil courtyard garden and, not only that, but a swimming pool just feet away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Spend a lazy afternoon relaxing on one of their plush cabanas, cooling off with dips in the pool or by sipping on a refreshing cocktail!
Cozy yet chic, Soclo disguises the hotel to imitate its family-home townhouse origins. Velvet furniture, oak details, gold highlights – there is an understated touch of glamor in the bar and salons. Its 16 bedrooms cover the four floors, each with a private bathroom and old-fashioned shutters on the windows, with the Prestige Rooms on the top floor overlooking the rooftops to gaze at the Couvent des Jacobins and the Basilique Saint-Sernin.
Mingle with tourists and locals alike – everyone wants to visit Soclo! Enjoy cocktail hour in the garden, load your plate at the buffet brunch, and step straight out into the city, the magnificent Place du Capitole a 9-minute walk away. Awarded a Michelin Key in 2024 – the equivalent of a Michelin star for hotels – for a unique and special stay, Soclo is the only hotel in Toulouse with such an honor.

La Cour des Consuls
Toulouse’s spectacular 5-star hotel is La Cour des Consuls. This is another beautiful conversion, this time across two townhouses (one 16th century, the other 18th century). The hotel is fronted by a palatial courtyard closed off by a neo-classical façade, softening the noise of the historic Carmes neighborhood, a great spot for restaurants and cocktail bars.
Twice the size of Soclo, La Cour des Consuls houses 32 rooms, including six suites, all with soundproofed windows for peaceful nights, as well as a spa with a traditional hammam, gym, a champagne and cocktail bar, and its own gourmet restaurant, Le Cénacle. A buffet breakfast is available every morning, and optional services can be included such as babysitting, massages, and champagne room service. With the plush bedding, air conditioning, monogrammed bathrobes, and Nespresso machines, the rooms are almost too comfortable to leave!
La Cour des Consuls is just off Rue de Metz, a 4-minute walk from the Esquirol metro station, a 9-minute walk to the Place du Capitole, and two blocks away from the Garonne river, so it is an incredibly convenient haven – if you ever want to leave that is!
Address: 46 Rue des Couteliers, 31000 Toulouse
Albert 1er Hotel
Located around 100 meters from Place du Capitole, on a side street just off the main shopping district, Rue d’Alsace Lorraine, is the discreet yet beautiful Albert 1er Hotel. The 3-star hotel has been owned and run by the same Toulousain family for four generations, so there is a personal touch to the outlook of the hotel team. As part of their “slow tourism” ethos they provide every guest with a personalized map of the city, so you can discover the “real Toulouse.”
At Albert 1er, the team wants your stay to feel like home. Their local focus extends to the hotel’s daily breakfasts which celebrate Toulousain coffee roasters, cheese from the local MOF fromagerie Xavier, and eggs from our neighboring department Tarn. The hotel also offers a vintage bike rental service, so you can traverse the city at a more exploratory pace. Other services include yoga classes for all levels, parking rental, and ready-made picnic hampers. This is a great hotel for families, as all children stay for free! All the comfortable rooms include private bathrooms, are soundproofed against the noise of its central location, and come with blackout curtains.
Albert 1er Hotel sits between two metro stations – Capitole and Jeanne d’Arc at a 3- and 4-minute walk away respectively. As soon as you step outside the hotel, you’re in the city center with Marché Victor Hugo, shops, tea shops, and restaurants all within a few minutes walking distance.

Hotel Héliot
Finding a hotel that is both cozy and central sounds like a fantasy, but luckily for Toulouse, we have Hotel Héliot! Just off the Ramblas in the city center, Hotel Héliot is hidden down a side street, where the noise of the city’s main thoroughfare immediately disappears. Situated in a renovated early 20th-century residence, the hotel has kept its homely charm with the central curving staircase, its spacious marble fireplaces, and decorative molding. Here, old meets new thanks to the modern comforts of air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, and Chromecast for the bedroom TVs.
The owners want you and your family to feel at home, particularly because they themselves are a family! You’ll find yourselves thoroughly looked after by the whole team, led by the owner Frédéric, who pride themselves on the personal touches, treating their 12-room establishment more like a B&B than a hotel.
Enjoy the daily breakfast of local delicacies for 9.50€, then step out to explore the city with the central Place Wilson a 5-minute walk away and Jean Jaurès metro station less than 200 meters down the road. The bus stop for the airport shuttle is on the hotel’s doorstep, while reaching Matabiau station takes a mere 7-minute walk. Hotel Héliot also has a private car park available for rental. Ask the Héliot team for any recommendations of restaurants or sites to see, as they are eager to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
